During the second quarter of this year, it was reported that catastrophes caused insured property damages estimated in $6.03 billion, as it was reported by Property Claims Services. it's important to point out that when it comes to insurance matters, catastrophes are defined as any events causing over $25 million in insured property damages and also that affects a significant number of policyholders and insurers. During the April-June period, 16 catastrophes occurred, resulting in more than 1.2 million claims in the same priod. Texas is the state with the largest catastrophe losses in the Q2, reaching $1.08 billion. Other states which were severely affected by catastrophes and so influencing the insurance market were Minnesota ($810 million), Kansas ($578 million), Arkansas ($450 million) and Oklahoma ($425 million). This numbers reach nearly the double the amount of catastrophe related damages during the year's first quarter, bringing the total losses of the year to nearly $9.45 billion.
